Jesus is Denied by Peter Three Times
Luke 22:61-62 – “And the Lord turned and looked at Peter. And Peter remembered the saying of the Lord, how he had said to him, ‘Before the rooster crows today, you will deny me three times.’ And he went out and wept bitterly.
As the Lord faces His accusers, Peter faces his own trial before a servant girl and bystander.
Peter, a witness to the Transfiguration of Christ, a man who walked on water, albeit briefly, the one who took up a sword when the crowd came to arrest Jesus—now, in this moment, consumed by a combination of fear, shock and self-preservation, denies even knowing Jesus, let alone following Him.
As the rooster crowed, Jesus looked straight at Peter. Without a word, Peter remembers that even this Jesus had foretold. The look was not one of condemnation, but it was one of profound sorrow and foreknowledge. Even as Peter denies Him, Jesus is in the process of securing the salvation that will eventually restore him.
