Of all the instruments of death that mankind has engineered, crucifixion was arguably the most tortuous, shameful and drawn out! Yet, remarkably the Jewish leaders brought the charge of blasphemy against Jesus, which according to Law should have required stoning, which the Jews tried to do to Jesus in John chapters 8 and 10! Jesus was crucified by the Jews but in a time when they are under Roman authority, fulfilling prophecy.

Jesus Himself referenced another symbol of this event in the Old Testament, when the Israelites were cursed in the wilderness, having been bitten in a viper infested portion of desert for their endless complaints. God directed Moses to exalt a brass serpent (likely on a cross shaped pole) and all who simply trek across the over 2 million+ sized camp to see that brass serpent would “Look and Live”!
